Jon Moxley likely to wrestle top NJPW star at AEW All Out

It’s looking like Jon Moxley may face an NJPW wrestler at AEW’s next pay-per-view event.

Dave Meltzer noted on today’s Wrestling Observer Radio that Moxley had recently talked with AEW President Tony Khan about an idea for a match with a top NJPW wrestler and Khan liked it. Meltzer believes it’s for All Out, but that’s not confirmed.

“What I do know is that fairly recently, at 4 am, Jon Moxley had a discussion…I don’t know the night, I think it was the night of the taping with Tony Khan. He had an idea for a match which I believe is for the September 5th pay-per-view. Tony Khan liked the idea. I knew it was a top New Japan wrestler. I didn’t know the name of who it was, but I know about the discussion.”

This comes at the same time that Hiroshi Tanahashi appeared on Wednesday’s AEW Dynamite to plug his match with Lance Archer for the IWGP United States Championship at the August 14th Resurgence show in Los Angeles.

Meltzer did speculate it could be either Tanahashi or Minoru Suzuki, but with Tanahashi set to face Archer for the title, it’s looking like Tanahashi.

Also, on Wednesday’s Dynamite, Moxley mentioned Tanahashi in a promo segment and how Tanahashi had been avoiding him for months. Moxley closed the promo by stating that while the forbidden door may be open, there’s nothing good waiting for him on the other side.
