Kenny Omega Addresses Rossy Ogawa Fat-Shaming Allegations, Recalls Being Attacked for Past Criticisms

All Elite Wrestling star Kenny Omega recently took to a live social media stream (scroll down to watch the clip) to address the controversy surrounding Rossy Ogawa, the founder of the new Marigold women’s wrestling promotion and former head of Stardom. Omega specifically spoke on recent reports alleging Ogawa fat-shamed his former Stardom World Champion, Utami Hayashishita, and also called out individuals who had previously criticized him for speaking negatively about Ogawa.

Omega began by acknowledging the situation surrounding Ogawa and Hayashishita. “Yeah that’s very odd,” Omega commented, referring to the alleged fat-shaming incident. This led him to reflect on past interactions where his own critical remarks about Ogawa were met with hostility and disbelief from some fans.

He recounted the backlash he faced, stating, “The funny thing is, I remember comments that I made on this chat, and people attacked me instantly. ‘How dare I say anything bad about Rossy, I’m lying, I’m a liar, what would I know, if I know something maybe I should just say what it is, because if I don’t say it I’m just as bad right flat out.'” Omega firmly pushed back against this line of reasoning: “It doesn’t work that way. And if you think it works that way you don’t know how life works.”

The former AEW World Champion suggested that individuals like Ogawa often expose their own character over time. “Someone like Rossy does a good job of revealing himself to the world on his own,” Omega stated. He expressed a belief that further revelations or actions would eventually make Ogawa’s nature clear to a wider audience.

“And soon enough, whether he goes full mask off on his own or people start talking, the writing will be on the wall,” Omega predicted, implying that more information or incidents might come to light that would validate his earlier concerns.

Despite his strong stance on Ogawa as an individual, whom he referred to as a “bad person,” Omega offered a nuanced perspective on Ogawa’s new wrestling venture, Marigold. He indicated that he views the promotion itself as a “net positive for the wrestling industry.”

Omega elaborated that Marigold provides a valuable platform for wrestlers and referees to showcase their talents and art. He stressed the importance of supporting these performers, irrespective of the issues surrounding the promotion’s founder.
