Kenny Omega shares timeframe for release date of AEW video game

AEW is still working on their first video game and the release date for it is still being figured out.

This is something that Kenny Omega talked about while doing an interview with TalkSport. The game will be on consoles such as Xbox and Playstation. In November 2020, AEW revealed an early trailer for their debut game.

The AEW executive vice president noted that the game is in development, but the promotion is expecting the game to be released in the first quarter of 2022.

“I wouldn’t say years [away] plural. I would say in a perfect world, give it about a year’s time. We’re working really hard and we’re lucky to have two teams, one in America and one in Japan, working on this almost around the clock. We do know that time is of the essence, we can’t let this sit around forever and people want a game like yesterday [laughs] so, we do want to release something as soon as we feel it’s ready and representative of what our brand should be and what will make fans happy.”

Omega continued by noting they don’t want a bad launch such as Street Fighter 5 or Cyberpunk. Instead, they want to present a product that will be fun to play from day one, but it will be ever-evolving just like their roster.

He stated that if they add a new pay-per-view event or go to a new arena or sign someone new, they want to add that into the game after its released. The reason for this is to make sure the fans can feel up to date with their roster and the growth of the promotion.

Omega also talked about the process of making a video game, expectations, and more. Check out the full interview here.
