Following his return to the company last week, Kota Ibushi’s first match back in an AEW ring has now been confirmed. Ibushi is set to face Trent Beretta in a singles match on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite.
Ibushi made his return on the June 21 episode of Collision after being out of action for much of 2024 with an injury. His last AEW match was on the November 15, 2023, episode of Dynamite. On Collision, Ibushi came to the aid of his friend Kenny Omega, who has been targeted by the Don Callis Family.
AEW President Tony Khan made the match announcement on X, tying the booking directly into the ongoing storyline.
“After returning to AEW to stand up for @KennyOmegamanX against @TheDonCallis Family, The Golden Star Kota Ibushi will fight vs @rainmakerXokada’s friend RPG Vice Trent Beretta,” Khan wrote.
The match will be the first-ever one-on-one encounter between Ibushi and Beretta. While they have shared a ring before in multi-man tag team matches in New Japan Pro-Wrestling, their last encounter of any kind was back in November 2018.
