AEW and NJPW will present a stacked card at tonight’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view event. It will also have a surprise in store for fans when Zack Sabre Jr. battles a mystery opponent that in storyline was selected by Bryan Danielson, who is on the sidelines with an injury.
There has been speculation it could be Cesaro or Johnny Gargano. The former NXT Champion will be in town, but only for a few hours as he is doing a signing. As for Cesaro, he has been training inside the squared circle as of late.
One name has been ruled out as the possible surprise and that’s Kenny Omega, who has been away since November to heal up several injuries.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, the former AEW World Heavyweight Champion made it clear that he won’t be wrestling at the show as Sabre’s opponent.
“I can safely say there is zero chance it will be me,” Omega said. “But the replacement is going to leave people very happy. I can’t see people being disappointed by this legitimately handpicked replacement by Bryan Danielson.”
Omega noted that he has had five procedures while away after compiling injuries over several years. He wants to have a long career so he took this time off to address what has been hurting him.
