Matt Hardy Lays Out His Rules For Involving ‘Civilians’ In Matches After Jon Moxley Lawsuit

TNA star Matt Hardy has weighed in on the recent lawsuit filed against Jon Moxley and AEW by a production crew member who Moxley pushed down during a 2023 match. Speaking on his “Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, the veteran laid out his personal rules for involving non-wrestlers in physical angles, stating that you cannot take risks with untrained people in the modern era.

He explained that unless a “civilian” is fully aware of what is going to happen and has been prepared for it, a wrestler cannot get physical with them.

“I mean, I’ll tell you what my rules are. I mean, you don’t do anything with a civilian, someone who is an untrained performer, unless they absolutely know what they’re going to do and they are prepared for it. I mean, you can’t take that risk in this day and age, in 2025, right? Even though that was 2023, you just can’t do it… For everyone out there, especially if there’s someone that is not a trained pro wrestler or trained performer in some capacity, you can’t do anything physical with them if they aren’t aware of it, if they don’t know what’s happening, because they’re not ready for it. They’re not trained. They’re not ready to break falls. They’re not ready to be shoved. They’re not ready to do anything physical. They are not prepared for it. So you just can’t do that.”

Hardy, who has worked with both Moxley and the crew member, Chris Dispenza, in the past, said he has a lot of respect for both men and hopes that “cooler heads can prevail” and the situation can be settled.
