Matt Hardy: MJF ‘Just Stands Out Head And Shoulders Above Everybody Else’

Matt Hardy has taken a close look at AEW’s main event scene, and in his eyes, one star stands above the rest: MJF.

Speaking on The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy, the veteran assessed several of AEW’s top characters before landing on the AEW World Champion as the standout, praising his organic and authentic rise.

“The character that I think has grown the most and has actually got the hottest organically in the most authentic way possible is MJF, and he just stands out head and shoulders above everybody else to me when it comes to AEW,” Hardy said.

For Hardy, what separates MJF is his consistency, noting that the character has evolved without losing its core identity.

“It has been one path the whole while, and he has grown. The character hasn’t changed really from his core. He has become the champion. He has became like a dominant player,” Hardy said. “Whenever he starts talking, people are sitting on the edge of their seat, and they want to hear what he has to say. He’s a really compelling person who keeps the crowd enthralled.”

Hardy also weighed in on the ideal challenger to dethrone MJF, pointing to Will Ospreay and the compelling underdog story he brings.

“He is the babyface to defeat MJF,” Hardy said. “I do like how Will Ospreay has played up his whole thing, and he’s talked about the whole autistic situation and just underdog and where he came from, and just the way he has gone so much further than anybody thought he could.”

For Hardy, an Ospreay victory over MJF would be a natural payoff.

“Him knocking off MJF, the rich, evil, egotistical villain, it’s just a story that writes itself,” Hardy said.
