Mercedes Martinez issues statement about signing with AEW

Mercedes Martinez made her AEW return on Wednesday’s Dynamite when she cost Thunder Rosa her match against Jade Cargill, who advanced as a result to the TBS Title Tournament finals.

After the match, Martinez beat down Rosa before Ruby Soho ran out to make the save. Cargill will face Soho in the finals next week. AEW President Tony Khan later confirmed on Twitter that Martinez has signed with the promotion.

Martinez issued her own statement on her signing by writing the following:

Martinez was among the names released by WWE in August. She worked the 2017 Mae Young Classic tournament, but was eliminated in the semifinals. She was brought back in 2018 for the tournament but also was eliminated in the second round. Martinez debuted for AEW back at the 2019 All Out pay per view before signing with WWE.

Martinez feuded with various NXT stars such as Rhea Ripley and more. She was called up to the main roster as a member of Retribution under the ring name of Retaliation, but asked to be removed from the group months later and sent back to NXT.
