Mercedes Moné on Her Global Mission and a Potential Toni Storm Rematch
Following her successful AEW TBS Championship defense at Forbidden Door, Mercedes Moné addressed the media to discuss her victory, her status as a nine-belt champion, and her overarching goal to elevate women’s wrestling worldwide. During the press conference, AEW President Tony Khan also praised her recent work and endorsed a potential main event rematch against “Timeless” Toni Storm. Scroll down to watch.
The “Hardest Match So Far in AEW”
Moné retained her TBS Championship in a four-way match against Alex Windsor of AEW, Persephone of CMLL, and Bozilla of STARDOM. She described the unique challenge of the bout. “This might have been my hardest match so far in AEW,” she said. “I have never expected to wrestle three women that I never met, really… Alex Windsor is brand new here, but she is pissing me off. She did a great job… and the CMLL Persephone, she showed up… but I never met her. She didn’t introduce herself to me. The disrespect. And then… Stardom giving me a Bozilla?”
“I Am The Greatest Women’s Wrestler of All Times”
Moné used the press conference to remind everyone of her current dominance, revealing that she had won an additional championship over the weekend. “I have nine belts, Moné,” she declared. “I am the greatest women’s wrestler of all times. And what did you expect?” She then demanded that her success be recognized on the upcoming episode of AEW Dynamite. “I need a celebration… on Dynamite. I need to celebrate. Tony, what do you think?” AEW President Tony Khan agreed, stating, “I think that would be great champ. As a fighting champion, you’ve been out here fighting all these matches. You deserve that.”
Making Women’s Wrestling Global
A reporter asked Moné about her stated goal from a few years ago to take over wrestling on a global level. She responded with a passionate statement about her mission to elevate the entire industry for female performers. “What I’ve always wanted to do is make women’s wrestling global, make people care about what we do, about women’s wrestling,” Moné said. “We are the best at what we do, the greatest. And I get to do that… I want to leave a legacy that cannot be touched… I get to achieve this goal and wrestle amazing women that I never thought or believe that I would ever wrestle, and they are kicking my ass and making a name for themselves. People are talking about them. That’s what I want.”
A Potential Rematch with Toni Storm
The conversation eventually turned to her one loss in AEW, which came against “Timeless” Toni Storm at the All In: Texas pay-per-view. When a reporter tried to ask about that match, Moné immediately cut them off. “We don’t talk about my past. We talk about my now,” she stated firmly.
However, another reporter later asked Tony Khan about a potential rematch between the two, which Khan fully endorsed as a main event attraction. “I think that is absolutely a main event caliber match,” Khan said. “That was part of the big triple main event on the best show we ever did, and it was one of the greatest matches we’ve ever had in the history of AEW… I think that would be an absolutely fantastic main event match in any major show. And I think Toni Storm and Mercedes are two of the best wrestlers in the world.”
