MJF had wrestling fans talking after he no-showed the AEW fan fest on Saturday where he was slated to do meet and greets. He did show up at Sunday’s AEW Double Or Nothing where he lost Wardlow in the opening contest.
MJF did arrive at the arena shortly before the match was slated to take place and left immediately after it. They did an angle where he was stretched from ringside, an indication that he will be off television in the near future.
Fightful Select reported today that MJF had not flown home yet and that there was a sit-down meeting between Tony Khan and MJF planned. It was noted that they’ve not determined whether this aspect is real or a work, and when they asked, no follow-up answer was provided.
What was confirmed is this situation didn’t start out as a work. This all comes after Khan and MJF had an argument two months ago as Khan wasn’t happy that MJF didn’t clear his interview with Ariel Helwani through AEW PR. MJF wants more money now as he is underpaid compared to where he started in the promotion in 2019. However, MJF is not willing to sign a new deal right now as his current contract expires on January 1, 2024, and there will be a bidding war for his services between AEW and WWE.
Khan had reportedly told talent he'd be willing to pay MJF like a top talent, but MJF's frustration hasn’t subsided. The report added that MJF told numerous people backstage that he knew that the situation would likely come to a head with Khan and be discussed on Double Or Nothing week.
