MJF Retains World Title Against Samoa Joe During AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam show in New York City was headlined by the World Title match between MJF and Samoa Joe. There were teases earlier that Adam Cole might not have MJF’s back because he was too preoccupied by Roderick Strong, who was shown earlier in a hospital from his “neck issues.”

This was a hard hitting match with MJF taking a hard slam through a table at ringside, followed by a piledriver on the exposed floor. Doctors and trainers went out to check on MJF but Joe attacked them so he could continue with the match.

MJF was able to fight his way back with a Liger Bomb. Moments later he went to use the Dynamite Diamond ring but referee Paul Turner took it away. MJF kicked out after taking the Muscle Buster finisher. MJF was locked in a sleeper hold as Adam Cole ran down to ringside to shout words of encouragement. The ref was taken out of the match as MJF locked in a choke but he made it back in time to call the match because Joe passed out.
