MVP Reveals AEW Star Was Originally Planned To Join The Hurt Syndicate

The Hurt Syndicate’s manager, MVP, has confirmed that Ricochet was originally planned to be a member of the faction in AEW.

Ricochet Was Planned For The Hurt Syndicate

Speaking on his Marking Out With MVP & Dwayne Swayze podcast, “Marking Out With MVP & Dwayne Swayze,” with Ricochet as the guest, MVP detailed the initial creative plans for the group when they arrived in AEW in 2024. He explained that Ricochet was their first choice to fill the fourth spot in the group.

“Because Cedric was still under contract, we were coming over, and at the time you were still negotiating, there were a lot of pieces. We’re like, ‘Okay, we’re gonna reunite and we’re gonna Ricochet’s gonna have that spot, but in our business, we have the saying: card subject to change,” MVP recalled.

He pointed to a segment at the “Dynamite: Holiday Bash” special in December as the intended start of Ricochet’s initiation. “We did that spot in the ring with Bobby when he snatched you up, and that was supposed to have been like, where we start initiating Ricochet and where his character changes,” he said.

A Different Path For The AEW Star

Ultimately, the plans changed, and Ricochet took on a different path, eventually turning heel and forming his own faction with The Gates of Agony. MVP stated that while he wanted Ricochet in the group, things may have worked out for the best.

“As things sometimes happen organically, his career path went a completely different way, and selfishly, like I wanted him in the Hurt Syndicate, but I dare say things worked out better for you as they are,” MVP said. He had also previously stated that he wanted Ricochet for the original Hurt Business in WWE.

At the Forbidden Door pay-per-view this past Sunday, Ricochet and The Gates of Agony attacked The Hurt Syndicate during their AEW World Tag Team Championship match, costing them the titles.
