New AEW Champion Hangman Page Thanks Fans, Swerve Strickland, Will Ospreay & More In Emotional Address

On the July 16 episode of AEW Dynamite, the new AEW World Champion, “Hangman” Adam Page, delivered his first address to the fans since defeating Jon Moxley in a brutal Texas Death Match at All In: Texas. In a highly emotional promo, Page turned the crowd’s “You deserve it” chant back on them, thanking the AEW fanbase for their role in building the company.

As the crowd chanted for him, Page took the microphone and shifted the focus. “I think that there’s something more important than that that needs to be said, not from you to me, but from me to you,” Page began. “Because the truth is that you deserve it.”

A Thank You To The Fans

Page elaborated on his statement, crediting the audience for creating the demand for an alternative and for supporting AEW from its inception. “For all of you here tonight, and for all of you who were all in Texas, and all of you who watch us at home every single week, you are the ones who needed and demanded a better wrestling, a fully realized professional wrestling,” he declared. “You are the ones who supported a grassroots, do it yourself approach to pro wrestling… and you all are the ones that started a revolution to change the world. You all are the reason that we are here. You all are the reasons for All Elite Wrestling.”

He continued, “I want you to know that we just don’t do it for this championship. In actuality, we do all of this because of you.” Page concluded his thanks to the fans by saying, “You deserve to see this championship, and you deserve to have someone to hold it and to carry it, and who understands that connection, and someone who has more gratitude for all of you than you could ever, ever know.”

Honoring The Soldiers of a “War”

Hangman then framed Jon Moxley’s nine-month championship reign as a “war” to free the title, and he took time to thank the many wrestlers who fought against Moxley and his allies during that period. “On Saturday at All In in a Texas Death Match, I didn’t just walk into a battle, but I walked into a war,” Page said. “100 battles around me that have been going on for nine months now to free this championship, and some of the people who fought in that war have not come out of it the same. So tonight, I do need to say thank you to all of them.”

He then listed a number of performers who stood against Moxley, including Orange Cassidy, Jay White, Adam Copeland, The Opps (Katsuyori Shibata, Powerhouse Hobbs, and Samoa Joe), Bryan Danielson, and Darby Allin. He gave special recognition to Will Ospreay, saying Ospreay “reminded me why I love professional wrestling and made me excited for the future that AEW has in front of it.”

In one of the most notable moments of the promo, Page also thanked his rival, Swerve Strickland, for his ambiguous assistance at All In. “I don’t know whether he helped for himself or he helped for AEW, or for one small moment he decided to help for me,” Page admitted. “But I will say to Swerve Strickland, thank you.”

A New Kind of Champion

Finally, Page addressed the emotional toll of the feud, acknowledging that he “did shed a few tears” over the weekend. He pushed back against the notion that this was a sign of weakness. “There are people like Jon Moxley who would say that that makes me weak. They would say that that makes me less of a man,” Page stated. “But I want you to look at me. I have a wife and two kids who love me. I have thousands and millions of people watching AEW, fans who can look to me and who can respect me.”

He ended his address with a definitive statement about his new reign, declaring, “And if you want to know what kind of man I am, you can look at me tonight, because I am the champion of AEW.”

While Page has seemingly concluded his war with Moxley, a new challenger is already on the horizon, as MJF won the Casino Gauntlet match at All In: Texas to earn a future shot at the AEW World Championship. Click here for complete AEW Dynamite results.
