News on how AEW losing ITV Box Office will impact their UK PPV business

News came out last week that ITV would be closing their Box Office service, which impacts business for AEW (All Elite Wrestling).

This had been an option for fans in the UK but they do have another option of watching AEW programming such as pay-per-view events. All Elite Wrestling still has an agreement with ITV 4 to air Dynamite in the UK.

In an update, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that this is a move “ that will significantly hurt AEW’s PPV numbers going forward.”

AEW plans to stream their next PPV event, Revolution, on FITE and the promotion is in talks with another television PPV provider in the U.K. but Meltzer noted there aren’t that many options.

For this PPV event, AEW will air a one hour pre-show live on ITV 4 in order to push PPV buys.

Meltzer wrote, U.K. television PPV usually meant around 15,000 to 20,000 buys, and while some will move to FITE, not everyone does so because a solid percentage of the audience still has an aversion to Internet only PPV.”

AEW holds the Resolution pay-per-view event on Saturday, February 29, 2020 in Chicago, IL from the Sears Center.

In the headliner of this show, Chris Jericho will defend the AEW World Heavyweight Title against Jon Moxley.
