News on why AEW was not interested in buying Impact Wrestling, how Chris Jericho was involved

There is a follow-up story in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter about AEW and Impact Wrestling.

It was reported last week that there were forces trying to get Impact to sell to All Elite Wrestling.

Ed Nordholm gave a speech to the Impact locker room on Monday before the TV tapings in Nashville. He talked about the move to Pursuit being a positive thing for the company and framed 2018 as the year where they positioned the future of the company. He also put over how the Pursuit deal allows them to simulcast on Twitch.

Nordholm said that Anthem is not looking to sell the company. Dave Meltzer reported this week that when Chris Jericho first learned about Tony Khan wanting to start a wrestling company, he tried to set up a meeting with AEW Founder/President Tony Khan and Impact with the idea being that AEW could buy Impact so they could get their infrastructure and international deals. This went down in September and Anthem was willing to talk but Khan said that he was not interested in buying an existing company.

It’s a given that the Impact viewership number will be down much more than what they were getting on Pop. It will be interesting to see their numbers for the Twitch stream.
