Nigel McGuinness: My AEW Contract Was “Re-Upped When It Became Clear That I Was Gonna Be Wrestling Again”

AEW commentator and occasional wrestler Nigel McGuinness recently clarified his contract status with the company, particularly regarding his dual role. McGuinness serves as part of the commentary team for AEW Collision but has also stepped back into the ring sporadically, most recently challenging Zack Sabre Jr. for the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship at the AEW x NJPW Forbidden Door event.

During an interview with The Magic Of Wrestling, McGuinness was asked whether he has two separate contracts covering his commentary duties and his in-ring performances. McGuinness confirmed that it is all under one agreement, but noted an adjustment was made when his return to active wrestling became a reality.

“Yeah, my manager and agent sort of handle all that side of things. I just sign along the dotted line,” McGuinness explained. “I know we did, we sort of re-upped when it became clear that I was gonna be getting in the ring again, just sort of like an amendment to it. It’s ostensibly the same contract, I believe”.

McGuinness is scheduled to provide commentary for the upcoming taped episode of AEW Collision from San Antonio, Texas, which is set to air on October 25th. Check out the spoilers here.
