NJPW star’s jump to AEW appears to be a done deal

It looks like the rumors about an NJPW star heading to AEW are true.

It was first reported by Sports Illustrated that Lance Archer was in serious talks with All Elite Wrestling and Dave Meltzer reported this week that talks are serious enough that angles have been discussed for him.

Archer has retained the same attorney that handles trademarks for several people affiliated with AEW including Cody Rhodes, Billy Gunn, Shawn Spears and others.

It’s unclear what this means for his future with New Japan Pro Wrestling but the recent trademark filing seems to indicate that he will be appearing on AEW television soon. Chris Jericho and Jon Moxley also work some dates for New Japan so it’s possible that Archer can work out a similar deal.

Archer has won titles in over a dozen promotions and his stock has risen in the last couple of years as his ring work has improved. Archer won the NWA World Tag Team Championship on two occasions in TNA with partner Kid Kash. He’s also a 3-time IWGP Tag Team Champion with Davey Boy Smith Jr. and a former IWGP United States Champion.
