Will Ospreay had a message for WWE after AEW and WWE ran shows a few miles apart on Saturday night.
AEW held All Out at NOW Arena in Hoffman Estates, Illinois, while WWE and Lucha Libre AAA held Worlds Collide at Allstate Arena in nearby Rosemont. Ospreay closed All Out by retaining the AEW World Championship against Jon Moxley, reversing Moxley’s final Paradigm Shift attempt and pinning him with the Hidden Blade.
Speaking at the post-show press conference, Ospreay said the night meant more to him because of the competition down the road.
“Tonight was super special to me because it was the first time I was on a pay-per-view main event defending the championship, and the entire building was sold out on three matches. It sold out on myself and Jon, Brawling Birds and Divine Dominion, and the ladder match,” Ospreay said. “I cannot tell you the pride that I feel because people did have a choice. Everyone who came to this show tonight chose the right company.”
He then turned his attention to anyone looking to go head-to-head with AEW.
“We deliver the best pay-per-views, the best pro wrestling. Any time anyone wants to come and step up to us, here is the reality for you, we’re going to knock you down two fing levels. We are the best pro wrestling in the entire fing world, do not f***ing step to us ever again,” he said.
All Out was Ospreay’s first pay-per-view defense of the title. He won the AEW World Championship from Kenny Omega on August 30 at All In at Wembley Stadium in London, pinning Omega with a Hidden Blade after 34 minutes to begin his first world title reign. He had earned the title shot by winning the Owen Hart Cup.
The Three Matches
The three matches Ospreay mentioned were among the biggest on the card. The Brawling Birds, Alex Windsor and Jamie Hayter, retained the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship against Divine Dominion, Megan Bayne and Lena Kross, in a Chicago Street Fight, finishing it with 2 Birds 1 Stone through a barbed-wire board. The Young Bucks won the AEW World Tag Team Championship for a record fourth time in a three-way ladder match against champions Christian Cage and Adam Copeland and FTR.
Worlds Collide
Jim Ross addressed WWE’s decision to run Worlds Collide in the same area on the same night as All Out on a recent episode of Grilling JR. The episode’s description said he explained why he believes the move “feels spiteful.”
WWE’s broadcast plans for the show were unclear in the days before it took place. On the September 25 episode of Something To Wrestle, AAA commentator John “Bradshaw” Layfield said he would not be at the event and that announcers were not being brought in.
“I’m not going to be there. We’re going to call it post fact,” JBL said.
Worlds Collide was headlined by CM Punk, Rey Mysterio and El Grande Americano defeating Dominik Mysterio, JD McDonagh and Omos. Punk, who is from Chicago, came out wearing his Straight Edge Society mask, and Oba Femi clotheslined Omos over the top rope after the match. The show was not broadcast live. It is scheduled to air on tape delay Wednesday, September 30, on WWE’s and AAA’s YouTube channels.
