Will Ospreay Pitches AEW Running US Show During WrestleMania 43 Weekend In Saudi Arabia

Will Ospreay believes AEW should take advantage of WrestleMania 43 heading to Saudi Arabia by running a major show in the United States on the same weekend.

Speaking with Josh Martinez, Ospreay laid out his vision for what AEW could do to fill the void left by WrestleMania’s first-ever departure from North America.

“It has crossed my mind, especially hearing it would be going to Saudi Arabia. Why not? There are going to be a bunch of wrestling fans that usually flock to whatever city they are in and it’s something we should heavily consider. I hope our boss Tony Khan is considering it. I think the best thing we can do, on that day that WrestleMania is in Saudi Arabia, make affordable tickets for one of the greatest wrestling shows ever and make it a whole week. Ring of Honor on Saturday. Help out a bunch of Indie promotions on Friday. We can definitely formulate such a great, affordable time for wrestling fans and families. If we don’t look at that, what’s the point of doing it?” Ospreay said.

WrestleMania 43’s announcement of a Saudi Arabia event was met with boos from WWE fans and has drawn concern about its impact on the independent wrestling scene, which typically benefits heavily from WrestleMania weekend foot traffic in the host city. In recent weeks, it was reported that WWE has been preparing contingency plans in case the show cannot go ahead in Saudi Arabia given ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Prior to those concerns, names including The Rock were reportedly being offered significant financial deals to compete at the show.
