AEW star Will Ospreay has undergone successful surgery to repair herniated discs in his neck and is now on the long road to recovery. In a post to his Instagram account, Ospreay provided an update to his fans, confirming the operation was a success while acknowledging the lengthy rehabilitation process ahead of him.
“The road will be long, but it’ll be worth it to see you all again. Surgery was a success,” he wrote in the caption of his post. The former two-time AEW International Champion is expected to miss a considerable amount of time while he recovers from the procedure.
Ospreay had been wrestling with the serious injury, which he described as herniated discs pushing against his spinal cord and affecting his nerves. Despite his compromised physical condition, “The Aerial Assassin” was determined to compete one last time in his home country of England at the AEW x NJPW: Forbidden Door pay-per-view in London on August 24.
In the lead-up to the event, Ospreay was open about his health, stating, “I am compromised, I’ve got a few herniated discs pushing against my spinal cord, which is affecting a couple of my nerves. But, I can do stuff and I can perform one last time before I need to go get it all corrected”. His final match before his hiatus was in the brutal main event of the Forbidden Door show, where he was part of the winning team in a ten-man Lights Out Steel Cage match. Following the victory, AEW created a storyline reason for his upcoming absence when Jon Moxley and Claudio Castagnoli of the Death Riders faction attacked him.
Before the injury, Will Ospreay was in the midst of one of the most acclaimed in-ring years of any professional wrestler. After officially signing with AEW, he established himself as one of the company’s top stars in 2025. His run included a series of matches against opponents such as Bryan Danielson, Swerve Strickland, and Kenny Omega. We wish him a speedy recovery.
