On Sunday night, Mercedes Mone made her long-awaited in-ring return and AEW in-ring debut when she dethroned AEW TBS Champion Willow Nightingale at the AEW Double Or Nothing pay-per-view event from the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
This marked Mone’s in-ring return from injury after being sidelined a year ago in a match against Nightingale at a NJPW show, as well as her AEW in-ring debut. Despite making her AEW debut at the Big Business episode of Dynamite, she wasn’t medically cleared to wrestle before Double or Nothing.
Bayley and Mercedes have been friends for years, and their friendship dates back over a decade to their being in WWE NXT as part of the Four Horsewomen of WWE alongside Becky Lynch and Charlotte Flair. They also found success as WWE Women’s Tag Team Champions, a set of titles they pushed for the company to create, and were the inaugural champions.
Bayley didn’t have to defend her WWE Women’s Title at the King and Queen of the Ring PLE this past Saturday in Saudi Arabia. Instead, she was able to celebrate the title win with her good friend after the show in Las Vegas, as seen below:
