Powerhouse Hobbs on Unfinished Business, The Don Callis Family, and What’s Next

As he prepares for one of the biggest matches of his career at AEW All In, Trios Champion Powerhouse Hobbs is banged up but focused. In a recent interview with Emily Mae for WrestlingNews.co, Hobbs opened up about his physical state after a brutal table spot on Dynamite, the source of his intense in-ring persona, and his goals for the historic event in Texas.

Unfinished Business

Hobbs admitted that he is feeling the effects of the violent go-home episode of Dynamite, where he was put through a table. “Every time I move, my back hurts. I’m a little pissed off about that,” he said. Despite the pain, he is ready for the high-stakes environment of All In. “It’s just an amazing feeling. Just being part of history… Everybody on this card has some type of weight on their shoulders, and it’s high expectations.”

He explained that the intensity fans see from him in the ring is drawn from a very real place. “My life. I take all a lot of frustration from my past, and put all that energy in the ring,” Hobbs revealed. “So it’s kind of one of those things where once I turn that switch on, you know, it’s trouble.”

The Next Chapter and The Don Callis Family

When asked what this next chapter of “The Book of Hobbs” will be, the champion had a simple, direct answer. “I can say probably this next chapter will be entitled ‘Victory,'” he stated. “It’s going to be a historical night. So that’s the way I want to end my night.”

The conversation also touched on his time as a member of the Don Callis Family, a period he credits with helping him find a new level of aggression. “Being when I was with the Don Callis Family, it brought out… it made me realize it’s okay to be angry and bring that emotion out,” Hobbs explained. “I think that’s one of the best things that I’ve learned from Don, and probably the only thing.” He added with a laugh, “I still owe him a little little get back and payback.”

A Texas-Sized “MEAT” Chant

Looking ahead to Saturday’s All In event, Hobbs has two primary goals: retain the AEW World Trios Championship and get a massive reaction from the Texas crowd. “I’m looking to retain these titles,” he said, “I’m looking for a Texas-sized ‘MEAT’ chant.” He encouraged the fans in attendance to bring the energy, saying, “What I know about Texas… everything’s bigger out here, so I have high expectations of everyone in attendance at that show.”

Powerhouse Hobbs, alongside his partners Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata, is set to defend the AEW World Trios Championship at the All In: Texas pay-per-view. They will face the team of Claudio Castagnoli, Wheeler Yuta, and Gabe Kidd in a highly anticipated six-man tag team match. Click here on details on how to order AEW All In: Texas.
