Reason why AEW moved Jim Ross to Rampage commentary team this week

Fans may have noticed that Jim Ross was only on commentary for the main event of Wednesday’s episode of AEW Dynamite that featured the Blood & Guts match, which took up the entire second hour of the show.

As usual, Ross received a big pop from the fans in attendance when he was introduced. It was later announced that the legendary broadcaster would also call the entire Rampage episode that was taped on Wednesday night and will air on TNT this Friday night.

During today’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted that AEW is experimenting with a shakeup for the commentary team.

“So real quick, the deal with JR is, it looks like, at least this week because they’re doing an experiment, it looks like JR will do the second hour of Dynamite and he’s going to be moved to Rampage on Fridays as well. So he announces the entire Rampage show this Friday night.”

Since AEW launched in 2019, Ross has been the definitive voice of the promotion alongside Excalibur. AEW does change up the commentary teams a lot for all their shows as there will be different color commentators used whether that be Tony Schiavone, Taz, Paul Wight, Chris Jericho, William Regal, and more.

Ross has yet to publicly comment on the change.
