The biggest match to take place at the AEW Dynamite: Grand Slam special in New York City at the USTA Arthur Ashe Stadium was a non-title match between World Champion Kenny Omega and Bryan Danielson.
The match opened the show instead of being booked as the main event. The headliner was Women’s Champion Britt Baker defending her title against Ruby Soho.
Dave Meltzer reported in the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that AEW officials put the match on first so that they could go longer earlier in the show without having a commercial break. It should be noted that the match did have one commercial during it.
The bout ended in a 30-minute time limit draw. The belief is the promotion will be booking a rematch with the title being on the line in the near future. All Elite Wrestling does hold its Full Gear pay-per-view event on November 13th so that is a possible date for it.
This marked Danielson’s in-ring debut with the promotion.
