A NJPW star has become a major person of interest for promotions in the United States as his current deal nears its end. Speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer came out with the news that NJPW star Gabe Kidd is drawing significant attention from both WWE and AEW.
Kidd, who has made a name for himself as a focal point of the Bullet Club War Dogs, is expected to see his contract expire at the end of January. Dave Meltzer noted that while he does not know the exact date, most NJPW contracts traditionally end this month.
“Gabe Kidd is another one that they (WWE) want, I’m sure AEW wants, I’m sure New Japan wants,” Meltzer said. “With Kidd, it’s going to be real interesting with him because I think that he really loves New Japan and New Japan made him a star”.
In addition to the interest in Kidd, WWE is reportedly keeping a close eye on a former champion in AEW. Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that WWE officials are “very high” on Powerhouse Hobbs. While Hobbs is currently one-third of the AEW World Trios Champions alongside Samoa Joe and Katsuyori Shibata, his future has become a topic of internal discussion within WWE.
Responding to questions about the “The Opps” member, Meltzer indicated there is more to the story than has been publicly shared. “I don’t know [when his contract expires]. But I know that those in WWE really want him,” Meltzer said. As of today, there is no specific reporting regarding the exact expiration date of Hobbs’ current AEW deal.
