Ric Flair addressed his absence from AEW programming on Busted Open Radio, suggesting it may stem from AEW President Tony Khan’s awareness of him being on blood thinners, particularly following an incident at Sting’s retirement match at last year’s AEW Revolution.
“I think when Tony found out that I was on blood thinners, which I don’t think he knew about,” Flair offered as a potential reason for his time away from AEW television. He then recounted a specific moment from Sting’s final match, a chaotic tornado tag team contest famous for its dangerous spots. Flair revealed Tony Khan had explicitly asked him not to use a blade, despite Flair being prepared to. “He was over the top at Sting’s retirement, saying, “Please do not cut’, because I made a blade. I was ready to go to war,” Flair said.
Ironically, Flair ended up bleeding anyway due to the match’s mayhem, specifically a spot involving Darby Allin diving through a pane of glass. “…but when that kid dove through the glass, I got cut up more…” Flair stated.
This led Flair to praise Allin’s incredible tenacity and fearlessness. “…that kid (Darby Allin) is phenomenal,” Flair declared. “I don’t know what to say. He’s a 200 pound lighter version of Mick Foley. He’s insane. He’s afraid of nothing.” Flair even referenced Allin’s recent high-profile expedition outside of wrestling: “I think he’s climbing Mt. Everest right now.”
