Tony Khan Reportedly Denied Ricky Starks’ Request For AEW Release

Ricky Starks is looking for his way out of AEW after not being used for nearly a year.

Ibou of WrestlePurists reported that Starks has asked for his AEW release in the past, but AEW CEO Tony Khan won’t grant him the release. As a result, he will have to wait out the rest of his deal with the company.

Per the report, several things led to the situation, most of which will never be reported. Starks has been absent from AEW programming since March 2024 and has stated he doesn’t know why he isn’t being used.

Starks plans to stay relevant by working independent dates. He has since worked for Glory Pro WrestlePocalypse and House of Glory, although pulled from GCW appearances after the Effy controversy.

There have been reports of WWE being interested in Starks once available. It’s believed he will be WWE-bound once his AEW deal is up.
