In a rare move, Tony Schiavone wasn’t featured on this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite, which has fans speculating about why he wasn’t on the show.
This comes after he tweeted and quickly deleted a jab at NJPW announcer Chris Charlton after NJPW suspended Carlton for two months due to ani-AEW comments during Wrestle Dynasty that included him calling Tony Khan a money mark and attacking AEW for their booking of former NJPW stars.
The AEW announcer tweeted, “Speaking for all of us in AEW, GFY [go f*** yourself.] And speaking for all of us who have been around you, take a shower once in a while.” During Dynamite, ROH lead announcer Ian Riccaboni joined Excalibur and Nigel McGuinness in the commentary booth. Some fans thought Tony missing the show was due to his tweet.
While speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer noted Schiavone missed the show because of a family situation.
Meltzer said, “He wasn’t on the show tonight, and it’s nothing big or anything like that. When he wasn’t there, I started getting all these people going like, ‘Oh my god did he get suspended for that text?’ but it was just a family situation. He’s fine, he’ll be back, I presume, on Saturday [for Collision]. It’s not anything to be alarmed over. It was just a family situation. He missed one show.”
