Fresh off his match with TNT Champion Cody Rhodes, Sonny Kiss is the guest this week on Chris Jericho’s “Talk Is Jericho” podcast.
Here are a couple of highlights from the interview:
Sonny Kiss was asked how he got into AEW: “Brandi messaged me and asked if I was signed anywhere. She asked if I could come to a show. I said I was signed to Lucha Underground but I could still do other stuff. Thankfully we were allowed to do everything but the other company. That contract (Lucha Underground), I don’t even want to get into for legal reasons. We were probably making $4,000 a year. There were times I couldn’t even pay my cell phone bill or anything. I couldn’t even contribute to my rent. They (Pentagon and Phoenix) were one of the first to get out and I was one of the last to get out. Cody said, don’t worry, we are still going to book you to the moon and make sure you are still here which was great.”
Sonny talked about how he got his wrestling name, Sonny Kiss: “Sonny is the nickname to my real name. My real name is Hassan, yes, very Middle Eastern. Kiss came from, I think it was because I was blowing kisses a lot when I came out to my entrance at the beginning. My dad is partly Middle Eastern and my mom is African American Native American.”
