Stephane McMahon was interviewed by Fortune.com ahead of this weekend’s SummerSlam pay-per-view in Toronto, Ontario. She talked about the Women’s Evolution, SmackDown on FOX and more.
McMahon was asked about WWE’s future and the declining ratings that have been blamed on the creative direction.
“We can always get better,” McMahon said. “We want to surprise and delight our audience and give them an experience that’s worthy of their passion.”
McMahon also gave the company line about wanting to put smiles on faces all over the world.
As previously noted, it’s clear that WWE sees AEW as competition because they have been in talks with FOX about moving NXT to FS1. When it eventually moves to FS1, the plan is for the show to go live every week and air from 8-10 pm eastern with both hours in direct competition with AEW on TNT.
When she was asked about competition from AEW, she gave a short response: “I think it will ultimately make us all better, I really do.”
McMahon’s comment on AEW is similar to what she told us a few weeks ago. Check out what Stephanie McMahon said about AEW in the video below:
