AEW appears poised to secure the future of the Borden legacy. According to a report from Fightful Select, sources within the promotion expect Steven Borden to be signed to a contract “before long,” with some speculation that the deal may already be done.
The son of the legendary Sting has been making waves since deciding to pursue a career in professional wrestling, and his recent trajectory suggests he has found a home in the company where his father finished his Hall of Fame career.
Borden made his official AEW in-ring debut in a dark match prior to the “Winter is Coming” edition of Dynamite on December 10. Competing against Kiran Grey, a fellow trainee from Darby Allin’s camp, Borden secured the victory in what was described as an impressive showing. The match served as a significant milestone, transitioning him from a prospect to an active competitor on the AEW stage.

AEW President Tony Khan was effusive in his praise for the second-generation star. Speaking to Fightful, Khan highlighted Borden’s rapid progress and performance.
“I THOUGHT HE WAS EXCELLENT,” Khan said. “He’s doing a great job. Very exciting in my opinion.”
The reception backstage was equally positive, with particular attention paid to Borden’s physical condition. A long-time member of the AEW roster reportedly commended Borden’s debut performance and marveled at his physique. The source colorfully noted that they “would sacrifice years of their NFL team winning to look like Sting’s son,” underscoring the impressive shape Borden has gotten himself into since beginning his training.
Steven Borden’s journey to the ring has been unconventional. Initially, he had no interest in following in his father’s footsteps. However, the wrestling bug bit him during the buildup to AEW Revolution 2024, where he portrayed the “Wolfpac” version of Sting during The Icon’s retirement match. Since then, he has been training extensively with Darby Allin. He made his pro wrestling debut earlier this year in a unique setting—an art show in New York City—where he teamed with JD Drake in a losing effort against Allin and Killer Kross.
He is currently scheduled to compete at DEFY Wrestling’s “Ender” event on December 28 in Los Angeles. Interestingly, he is scheduled to face Kiran Grey in a rematch of their AEW dark match.
