Swerve Strickland has expressed hope that the New Day ends up in AEW while also making clear that whatever Kingston and Woods choose to do next, they have more than earned the right to make that decision on their own terms.
Speaking on TMZ’s Inside the Ring, Strickland was asked whether he is hoping to work with the New Day in AEW following their WWE departure.
“Of course. Absolutely. I also just want them to do what’s best for them. If they want to take a five-year hiatus, they’ve earned it. They’ve more than earned it. They know their value as well, and that’s the most important thing. I hope that’s the lesson that everybody learns in this, not just as a fan but a professional as yourself in this industry. They know their value. They understand who they are. They understand what they bring, what they brought and their legacy they leave behind,” Strickland said.
Kingston and Xavier Woods mutually parted ways with WWE on May 2 after declining to accept pay cuts on a five-year contract they had signed just one year earlier. Multiple AEW talent, including the Young Bucks, FTR, MJF, Cash Wheeler, and now Strickland, have publicly reacted positively to the news, with many signaling their hope to eventually share the ring with them. AEW is widely expected to be their next destination once their 90-day non-compete clauses expire.
