Swerve Strickland: I’m Not Afraid Of Samoa Joe, He Needs To Know What I’m Capable Of

Ahead of tonight’s AEW Dynasty pay-per-view, Willow Nightingale and Swerve Strickland appeared on the AEW Unrestricted podcast. Nightingale will challenge Julia Hart for the TBS Championship and Swerve will challenge for Samoa Joe’s World Championship.

Willow Nightingale on her match against Julia Hart:

“I feel like, obviously, the stakes are a lot higher. I’m wrestling Julia Hart, who’s someone that I’ve never beaten before. So there is always this question of, ‘Can I pull it out this time? Can I do it? What’s going to make this time different’, but really what it comes down to is I am much more competent. I have much more faith in myself and my abilities. When it comes down to it, I have to go out there and trust everything I’ve done and just let it all happen as it’s supposed to.”

Swerve Strickland on what makes his match with Samoa Joe at Dynasty different from the last time he challenged him for the AEW Championship:

“The situation around the match makes this all different. The fact that you’ve seen the contact, you’re seeing the brutality between myself and Samoa Joe leading up to the pay-per-view match, that makes it different too. You know how we interact with each other already. Prior to the triple threat, you didn’t really know how myself and Samoa Joe were going to really interact in a match itself. You’ve seen what me and Hangman Page can do, but a lot of those elements are taken out. I don’t have that distraction. I don’t have another blood feud in the way. It’s just me and Joe, man to man, a legend in his own right, and probably one of the most violent, brutal world champions we’ve ever had. That itself is a challenge. Just facing Joe, standing across the ring from Joe, verbally, physically, that’s a challenge. So all this is just a challenge. Last week, I showed that I was up for the challenge by doing what I did like interfering two times throughout the night, just like showing that I’m not afraid of him. I know what he’s capable of, but at the same time, I gotta put in place that he needs to know what I’m capable of as well.”
