Thekla said at the AEW Revolution post-show press conference that she does not plan to give Kris Statlander another shot at the AEW Women’s World Championship anytime soon and demanded that Tony Khan give her a vacation.
Thekla retained the title in a two-out-of-three-falls match against Statlander at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. Thekla dismissed the notion that the match elevated her, insisting she was already a star.
“I didn’t think I was already a star before that? That did nothing to me,” Thekla said. “I have a very, very terrible announcement to make, actually. This is a good moment. I broke a little bit of my nail today in that match, and I was very fond of that nail. So thank you, Stat, for nothing other than that.”
When asked if she had any compassion for Statlander, who had positioned Revolution as her shot at redemption, Thekla was dismissive. “Why would I have compassion for Kris Statlander?” she said.
Thekla made it clear that a rematch is not happening. “I’m not having her anywhere near me for a very long time,” Thekla said. “I’m not doing this before the end of the year. This needs to end.”
When asked about her demands going forward, Thekla said she wants time off. “I have a demand for Mr. Tony Khan to give me vacation, because I’m the champ,” she said. “I do not care. I will go out there when I feel like it. Just a week, two weeks.”
Thekla also addressed the Triangle of Madness’ pursuit of the AEW Women’s World Tag Team Championship, saying she would support Skye Blue and Julia Hart in their pursuit of the titles. “Skye Blue and Julia Hart are definitely the runners up when it comes to that, and I’ll do anything in my power to help them bring that gold home,” she said.
Thekla won the Women’s World Championship from Statlander last month. She has now successfully defended it at Revolution and noted during the press conference that she has only been in AEW for eight months, asking the media for a round of applause.
