Tony Khan: AEW Grand Slam Australia Was Always Planned To Be A TV Event

There have been a lot of hurdles in the way of AEW’s next event. First, AEW announced a change of venue for their Grand Slam: Australia event, scheduled for Saturday, February 15, 2025.

Initially slated for the 52,000-capacity Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, the event was moved to Brisbane Entertainment Center due to reportedly slow ticket sales. The show is now officially listed as a two-hour AEW Collision airing at 10:30 PM Eastern on TNT, following NBA All-Star Weekend coverage.

The broadcast plans for MAX remain unclear, with the possibility of live airing or simulcasting with TNT. While speaking to Scott Fishman of TVInsider, AEW CEO Tony Khan discussed whether it was always the plan for the event to air on TV.

“Yes. Having this be a TV event has always been the plan. That’s something that the network wanted. It’s something the network brought to us recently as an opportunity to follow NBA All-Star Saturday. We saw it as a huge opportunity. It was a great vote of confidence for our partners at Warner Brothers Discovery. It will be one of the biggest nights of the year on TNT. It’s a great opportunity given the lead-in.”

The top bouts on the card include AEW Women’s World Champion Mariah May defending against Toni Storm, and Kenny Omega & Will Ospreay vs. Konosuke Takeshita & Kyle Fletcher.
