AEW President Tony Khan has addressed the possibility of a rematch between “Timeless” Toni Storm and TBS Champion Mercedes Mone main eventing a future pay-per-view. Speaking at the post-Forbidden Door media scrum, Khan called the potential bout an “absolutely main event caliber match.”
Tony Khan On A Toni Storm vs. Mercedes Mone Main Event
When asked about the two stars headlining a future show, Khan praised their first encounter at the All In: Texas pay-per-view last month. He stated that the match was already part of a “triple main event” on that historic night.
“I think that is absolutely a main event caliber match. That was part of the triple main event on the biggest show we ever did and one of the greatest matches we’ve ever had in the history of AEW,” Khan said. “They are two of the greatest wrestlers in the history of this company, and two of the greatest champions.”
The AEW All In Encounter
At All In, Toni Storm defeated Mercedes Mone to retain the AEW Women’s World Championship, handing Mone her first and only singles loss since joining the company. Khan believes that the quality of the match only increased the demand for a rematch.
“I felt like, coming out of it, the momentum was even greater for both of them,” he explained. “In a crazy way, after such a great much, even though [Mercedes] had never been beaten, I feel like you came out of it in some way with more respect and in many ways, people want to see a rematch even more.”
Khan shared his belief that a second match between the two would be worthy of the final spot on any card. “Absolutely, in my opinion, that would be a fantastic main event match on any major show,” he stated.
Both Storm and Mone were victorious in their respective matches at the Forbidden Door pay-per-view. Toni Storm successfully defended her AEW Women’s World Championship against ROH Women’s World Champion Athena. Mercedes Mone retained her TBS Championship in a four-way match.
