AEW has a loaded roster with some of the biggest names in the business. More importantly, they have won one of, if not the most diverse, rosters in the wrestling industry.
They’ve built a reputation for having the best wrestlers where the best wrestle. Black wrestlers have risen up the ranks and become top stars in AEW, whether that be Bobby Lashley, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, or Swerve Strickland, who became their first Black world champion.
While speaking with CHGO Sports, AEW CEO Tony Khan was asked about featuring Black talent in AEW programming and whether pushing them was a conscious decision or purely talent.
Khan stated, “Well, I think you just said it. I’m conscious of it, but I also think that these are some of the best wrestlers in AEW you just named. So we’re really lucky to have those great stars. We’ve been fortunate to be able to build up some great stars and also have a lot of great free agents come in to where I think so many of the top wrestlers, some of the top Black wrestlers in the world are in AEW, and I really think most of the top Black wrestlers in the world are now in AEW. But I think that is a conscious thing, but I also think it’s great.”
