AEW is in an interesting time as they’re preparing for the June 17 launch of AEW Collision, the return of CM Punk, holding the Forbidden Door pay-per-view event with NJPW later this month, and holding All In at Wembley Stadium.
AEW President Tony Khan is excited about what he calls an “amazing opportunity” with a new Saturday night show, Collision, which will reportedly be built around Punk.
While speaking with Sports Illustrated, Khan talked about the return of the former World Heavyweight Champion.
“We haven’t seen CM Punk in a long time, since All Out last September. He looked great in his last match. To the fans, he’s very important. He’s very important to the company, too. He’s been a big draw for us and historically throughout his career, and the launch of the new show happens to line up with the schedule on his rehab of his triceps injury.”
Khan added that when Collision was pitched to him by TNT, he was excited about it and excited about the timing of Punk’s return which coincides with the launch of Collision.
