There were several big stories coming out of last night’s AEW Dynamite and one relates to the big name being signed and announced this Sunday at the AEW Revolution pay-per-view.
Paul Wight noted that the person coming in is “Hall Of Fame worthy” but he did not say much else to give fans a hint as to who this person might be.
On the AEW Unrestricted podcast, Tony Khan said that this person (referred to as a “he”) is a “major, huge, huge star in the world of wrestling.” Khan also noted that this person has signed a multi-year deal with the company.
If we assume that this person will be wrestling for AEW then we can rule out someone like Mick Foley. Batista has ruled himself out and Goldberg is still under WWE contract. Kurt Angle has not completely ruled out wrestling again and he has said that he is wasn’t thrilled with his retirement match.
Another name that is possible is CM Punk, who has expressed that he is open to returning to the wrestling ring if the stars lined up with cash and creative.
Another name that fans have mentioned is Brock Lesnar. It may seem far-fetched but he is currently not under WWE contract and his merchandise was pulled last August. It would take a lot of money to get him but, as the old saying goes, never say never in pro wrestling. Someone like Punk or Lesnar could be the key to helping AEW landing more TV/streaming deals.
