Tony Khan: “Shane McMahon Is Always Welcome In AEW”

To promote this week’s episode of AEW Dynamite and Sunday’s Forbidden Door pay-per-view event, AEW President Tony Khan spoke with SI.com for a new interview where various topics were covered, including Shane McMahon.

It all started when Jim Ross discussed the idea of Shane joining AEW on his Grilling JR podcast during a Q&A and stated that McMahon in the promotion would be so crazy that it just might work. Ross’ co-host, Conrad Thompson, said on the latest podcast that he heard from a friend who told him that it’s not as far-fetched as people think, as Shane has reached out for hypothetical interest.

It’s been reported from the AEW side that people who, in theory, should know have either heard nothing or only heard what Thompson said. A source told Dave Meltzer that the idea came about during a conversation with a former WWE star in AEW, and it wasn’t serious, which would explain why the key folks in AEW wouldn’t have heard about it.

Khan said, “I heard the rumor that he might be interested. I’ve never met Shane, but we have a lot of mutual friends. I have a lot of respect for him as an executive and a professional wrestler. Shane is always welcome in AEW.”

McMahon has yet to comment on the possibility.
