Tony Khan Talks WWE Counter-Programming AEW: “Most Consistent Since JCP”

AEW President Tony Khan has addressed the increasing instances of AEW and WWE scheduling major events on the same day, drawing parallels to historical wrestling rivalries.

This came after AEW Double or Nothing and NXT Battleground ran concurrently on Sunday, May 25, 2025, with another same-day scheduling set for July 12th featuring AEW All In (afternoon) and WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event (evening).

Speaking at the AEW Double or Nothing post-show press conference, Khan was asked about this counter-programming. “It’s pretty consistent,” he observed. “I’d say it’s the most consistent event head-to-head scheduling I’ve seen since Jim Crockett Promotions saw a lot of scheduling that went that way.”

Referencing the past where Jim Crockett Promotions was eventually sold to Turner Broadcasting (becoming WCW) partly due to WWE’s counter-programming tactics, Khan offered a defiant outlook for AEW’s current situation. “I can tell you this will go a lot differently than that did,” he asserted, indicating his belief that AEW is positioned to withstand such competitive scheduling.
