Top AEW Heel To Be Absent From TV

AEW star Konosuke Takeshita is expected to be a participant in New Japan Pro-Wrestling’s prestigious G1 Climax tournament this summer.

The G1 Climax is an annual round-robin tournament where the winner earns a contract for an IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match at NJPW’s Wrestle Kingdom event. Participation is typically reserved for top heavyweight competitors from around the world.

While an official announcement has not yet been made, a report from the latest edition of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter points to Takeshita’s inclusion on a promotional poster as a clear indicator he will be working it and be gone from AEW TV.

Dave Meltzer wrote: “Konosuke Takeshita is on a G-1 Climax poster, which indicates him being in the tournament. The names in the tournament are going to be announced at Dominion and the lineups shortly after. G-1 will be from 7/18 to 8/17, so Takeshita will be absent from AEW during that time frame.”

NJPW is expected to officially announce the full list of G1 Climax 35 participants at its Dominion event this Sunday, June 15.
