A notable AEW name has been bitten by the injury bug. It happened at the AEW tapings on Thursday night in Portland to tape Collision, Rampage, and ROH television episodes.
PWInsider reports Ring of Honor Women’s Champion Athena went down with an injury at the tapings when she hurt her left leg. She was in action against Viva Van when they did a spot where Athena ran towards Van, who ducked down and pulled the middle rope down. Athena spilled to the floor, and when she popped up, she was limping. She hit Van with a forearm smash for the win.
Athena relayed to the referee that she had been hurt after Van was kicked out of the first pin attempt. The report noted that Athena stayed in character after the bout. However, she hopped to the backstage era while being helped out by the referee and another staffer.
Per the report, she was checked out once she arrived backstage, but the severity of the injury suffered by Athena, who is over 518 days into her ROH Women’s Championship reign, is unclear.
We wish her a speedy recovery.
