Awesome Kong and Shanna are no longer under contract with AEW.
The two wrestlers were removed from the company's roster page over the weekend, which caused speculation about their status. Dave Meltzer reported today the promotion decided to not renew their contracts.
Fightful Select reports Kong hasn't been around much, if at all in the last 16 months. It was said when Kong was no longer cleared to wrestle, AEW pushed along the split of the Nightmare Collective. At the time, AEW just announced that Kong wasn’t cleared due to an illness and then she disappeared.
It was added that AEW not renewing Kong's deal was expected “as she hasn't been in a coach role that was originally discussed for her as well.”
Kong made her promotional debut in a surprise appearance at 2019's Double Or Nothing. She worked a few matches and got some wins along the way, but hadn’t been seen since a January 2020 episode of Dark by defeating Skyler Moore. Before going to AEW, she made a name for herself in TNA Wrestling and had a brief stint in WWE. She also had the chance to work on Netflix's "Glow" series.
On the flip side, Shanna returned last November after being away for the majority of 2020 due to the pandemic. Her last match with AEW came in early April when she lost to Leyla Hirsch on Dark: Elevation.
