Wednesday Night War 1/1/20: AEW Dynamite nears one million viewers against NXT awards special

There was a clear cut winner this week in the Wednesday Night War between WWE NXT and AEW Dynamite.

The ratings data was posted by ShowBuzz Daily, which shows that AEW Dynamite drew 967,000 total viewers on TNT while drawing a 0.36 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic. This is good enough for a 13th ranking on the night among cable originals.

On the flip side, NXT, which was an awards show special, did 548,000 viewers on the USA Network, down from the Christmas episode that 831,000 viewers against no AEW competition.

The show drew a 0.15 rating in the 18 to 49 demographic, down from last week’s 0.22 rating. It should be noted that Wednesday’s episode of NXT didn’t feature any live wrestling but rather matches that took place at TakeOver specials.

Wednesday’s episode of NXT was the lowest viewership number the show has done since premiering on the USA Network in September, which was expected.

AEW didn’t air a show last week due to the Christmas holiday but Wednesday’s show saw it draw the fourth-highest viewership number since the show premiered on TNT on October 4th. It was also its highest-rated show since October 16th.

The ratings war continues next week as both shows will be live.
