Will Ospreay on AEW and NJPW collaboration - "for me personally I want it I want it to happen"

Will Ospreay

NJPW star Will Ospreay recently appeared on the Chris Van Vliet podcast. The former IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion discussed a plethora of topics from his recent career during the interview with CVV. One of the points brought up was that of AEW and NJPW. There has been a lot of rumors over the past year with potential collaborations between the two parties. Unfortunately, it does appear as though for the time being we will not be seeing a joint collaboration between the promotions, for a number of reasons.

Ospreay discussed one of the reasons for this on the podcast. "I think the main reason is like we're kind of in bed with Ring of Honor right now," Ospreay began. "I think New Japan has a very big loyalty to the guys. People need to remember that New Japan, at one point? Were going to file for bankruptcy. They stayed loyal to the guys [at ROH] and they were able to bring bring it back up. So then when ROH wasn't doing its best and was on the down? There were times when I think it was questionable [to help ROH] maybe? Like I don't really know."

The 'Aerial Assassin' would elaborate further. "New Japan have still been like 'we will help you every now and again. We'll still use some of your guys to like put them on the show, hopefully it will increase their value a little bit.' Guys like Jeff Cobb, for example."

Ospreay would finish by asking if AEW and New Japan really actually need each other. "The way I always see is, do we really need each other? I think from fans perspective there are a lot of dream matches. We could probably book like a nine match dream card right now just sitting here. I love everything what AEW are doing. I think its fantastic, its fine. Like they're doing everything great. New Japan is doing everything great. We don't really need each other, like we don't really need it. There's nothing that can benefit either group [at this point in time]. I don't really know maybe we could argue that like New Japan on TNT would probably help out a little bit? I think for me personally I want it I want it to happen. But I'm not like, 'NO IT MUST HAPPEN!' (laughs)."
