Backstage news on a top name expected to return for Impact Wrestling’s Bound For Glory

Impact Wrestling is getting ready for their biggest show of the year. Bound For Glory on 11/5 will air live on pay-per-view. The bad news is that their ratings are near an all-time low and there seems to be very little interest in the product right now. The good news is that although Anthem is making a bunch of budget cuts, the plan appears to be to rebuild the company from the bottom in 2018. We’ve been hearing that for the last few years so we’ll see how things pan out and at least they have a home on Pop for another year. It’s clear that they will need to gain some momentum within the next year if they want to get a U.S. TV deal that will pay them instead of the current a barter deal with Pop.

Impact hopes to get fans buzzing with new and returning names at Bound For Glory and the next set of TV tapings in Ottawa. One of the returning names is Alberto El Patron. Patron has been off TV for the last couple of months after being suspended following the airport incident with Paige. PWInsider is reporting that there has been a back-and-forth dialogue on the best way to use him on the PPV and there was a pitch to add him to the Eli Drake vs. Johnny Mundo title match. PWI also reported that there was another pitch to add him as a special referee because the idea is to give him the biggest splash for his return.

However, Dave Meltzer who has been saying for weeks that Alberto is expected to return at BFG, said in a post on the Wrestling Observer Forum, said that he was “told both ideas in that story for Alberto also not true.”

So, you can expect to see Alberto back at Bound For Glory but don’t expect to see him added as a special referee or a competitor in the main event.

Impact apparently realizes that they need star power so they have reached out to some top names. Click here to read about two top free agents that are rumored to be in talks with Impact Wrestling.
