Changes at Destination America, higher ups consider TNA a low priority

Variety reported last month that Marc Etkind is moving into a general manager position at the Science channel. Former Discovery Life Channel GM Jane Latman will take over for Etkind. She will be performing double duty as she will continue to work for the Investigation Discovery channel. Etkind was part of the team that launched Destination America in 2011.

We don't know what this means for Impact Wrestling but a new person in charge could bring a new opinion to the table on professional wrestling. It's been noted before that Impact's ratings were not the problem but not getting advertisers to spend money during Impact has been the main issue. TNA, at one point had programming on Saturday mornings and in various other time slots during the first couple of months of 2015 but when ratings dropped and ad revenue was not coming in, the decision was made to drop the extra programming.

Dave Meltzer notes that, as of last word, TNA is going to be off the station by January. It was originally supposed to be in September but there was an apparent compromise after a legal issue arose. ROH's deal with the station is until December.

For what it's worth, there was an advertiser looking to buy ad time on Destination America for 2016 on the wrestling shows and they were told that there would be no wrestling on the station. This was said before Etkind left the station. The advertiser was under the impression that neither TNA or ROH were being kept on the air in 2016. Also, the advertising side also got the same memo that Dave Meltzer reported on a few months ago. The memo noted that TNA would be gone by the end of September. That memo was sent out before TNA got their time extended by a few months.

Also, among the higher-ups at DA, wrestling is considered to be a low priority and it's something never brought up or talked about.
