Destination America reportedly not renewing Impact Wrestling in the Fall

Before Destination America announced that Impact Wrestling would be moving to Wednesday nights on June 3rd, they also made the decision to cancel TNA Wrestling. The time frame for the cancelation would be during the third quarter (roughly the last week of September, when the current television season ends).

DA then informed top management at Discovery Channel network of the decision. While the ratings were good, the money that the network is paying for TNA’s product was not worth the ratings that the promotion was bringing in.

It should be noted that when DA sent out the memo of the cancelation, it was before the announcement of a move from Fridays to Wednesdays. The internal memo that was sent out specifially stated that the show would be staying on Friday nights.

DA tried to keep the decision a secret just like Spike TV did when they made the decision to cancel Impact. The official announcement is not expected to be made to the public until the station lists its 2015-16 television season prime time lineup at the television upfront presentation.

This story is ongoing and the belief is that there might be a chance that DA reconsiders their decision if ratings improve on Wednesday nights. Dixie Carter was aware of the decision early last week. There were officials from the network in Nashville this week meeting with the creative team on plans going forward. Hopefully the move to Wednesday means that DA is giving Impact one last chance to bring in better advertising dollars. I don’t see what their next move could be if they lose Destination America.
