Once EC3 departed from the WWE around 2013, TNA hired him and he found success with the company. A few years later, he signed with WWE once again and was placed in NXT.
He was later called up to the main roster but WWE hasn’t done much with him. Instead, he’s been used in backstage segments and working Main Event TV tapings.
“My contract was still taking place. I decided to leave early because of the transitions going and I just thought it was a good time for other people to step up and a good time for me to challenge myself somewhere else at the moment. I had to do something different. Especially where my personal life was at that time. [?] I needed a big change,” he said.
This came at the same time that Drake Maverick, formerly known as Rockstar Spud, had signed with WWE. Despite their friendship, EC3 stated that Maverick’s decision to sign with WWE didn’t have an influence on his decision.
EC3 also gave some insight into how he was allowed to get out of his deal despite the fact that he was a top star for the company.
“At that time I think they were experiencing so many changes. They inherited a mess. They’re doing great with it now, so I’m so happy for them. But, at the time I was pretty well compensated so I think they were okay with taking me off the books and helping me out, and being okay with it because they also wanted to build new and fresh people. So, yeah, they were okay with it,” he said.
EC3 also talked about being out of action with a concussion and how it’s the toughest injury he’s ever had to come back from. You can watch the entire interview by clicking on the player below:
